Rick Hulbert Photography
The Complexity of Colour and The Lure of Luminance
My presentation is designed to appeal to all levels of photographic experience and expertise, including beholders of images relative to their perception and appreciation of photographs.
I will highlight why colour is the most “relative” of mediums… along with the complexities of how to interpret what your eyes and brain are telling you.
I hope to give you my take on why black and white photography can sometimes be so compelling. Spoiler alert: it is not because B&W is timeless or because some think it results in “Fine Art.”

Body of Work Presentations

On November 19th the Sunshine Coast Camera Club held a ‘Body of Work’ night where twelve members presented slide presentations of samples of their work. The evening was enlightening because of the diversity of the and quality of the images. Click here to see a sampling of the images. The club will likely host similar presentations again to allow all members who wish to participate to share their photographic style.

October 15th Open Theme Photo Review

The October 15th SCCC meeting will be a member photo review. This means that each member may contribute three photos to the evening. Images will receive (hopefully) helpful feedback from club members. Open theme means that the image may be of any subject, however we are challenging photographers to demonstrate design elements discussed in the Design mini workshop provided during the September 3rd. meeting. The handout provided at the workshop can be viewed here.
The session focused on the use of shapes, lines, textures and perspective in creating an image. For example, the image of the mountains above shows perspective through the gradations of blue in the mountains, while the image below makes excellent use of rectangular shapes and textures in the three textured colour blocks.

Images for the photo review should be brought to the club meeting in jpeg format on a flash drive and should be of medium size in order to be viewed on the projector.
